Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a small evergreen tree native to eastern Australia. The tree grows up to 7 meters tall and has distinctive papery bark with narrow, aromatic leaves. It produces dense spikes of small white flowers followed by woody capsules.
